A Passion Avenue For Science

Introduction

In this project, we developed an automatic soap dispensing machine promoting sustainability. Users can refill their containers conveniently, raising awareness of sustainable practices. The machine includes a smart flow-sensor system that stops dispensing at 90% capacity, preventing overflow or underflow for any container. It offers a precise and hassle-free dispensing experience.

Software used

For this project, the programming software used is arduino.

Hardware used

The hardware component used for this project includes : ESP32, relay, power supply of 12V, DC step-down module, DC motor pump, switches, LCD display and thermal printer

The 4Rs

The 4Rs in sustainability, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Return to earth, are fundamental principles for promoting environmentally conscious practices. Reduce focuses on minimizing resource consumption and waste generation by using fewer resources and adopting efficient practices. Reuse encourages extending the lifespan of products and materials through repair, repurposing, or sharing to avoid unnecessary disposal. Recycle involves the proper sorting, collection, and processing of materials to create new products or raw materials, reducing the need for virgin resources. Return to earth refers to the efforts to decompose materials through means of composting or degradation.

Conclusion

The project's conclusion highlights the development of a sustainable machine designed to address the issue of single-use plastic waste. Our goal was to create an easily deployable and cost-effective solution. The inclusion of wheels enables convenient transportation, while the compact size ensures minimal space requirement, unlike traditional water dispensers. Moving forward, widespread implementation of this machine in various locations is crucial, as it would provide convenient access for individuals to refill their empty containers with shampoo or soap, contributing to a sustainable practice we refer to as "soap-prise."

Future Outlook

To facilitate large-scale implementation, collaborate with soap producers to incorporate their products in refill stations, promoting sustainability and leveraging their market presence.Secondly is forge collaborations with new soap makers to integrate the refill system into their distribution lines, aligning their brand with sustainability and appealing to eco-conscious consumers. Furthermore, deploying the refill stations in high-traffic locations like grocery shops and public areas to enhance accessibility and convenience for consumers, encouraging them to choose refilling over buying new containers.

Several areas require careful consideration. Firstly, address regulatory aspects to ensure compliance with laws and regulations across jurisdictions. Secondly, prioritize cost-effectiveness by offering competitive pricing for soap refills, providing a clear advantage over purchasing new containers. Conduct a thorough cost analysis to ensure profitability for both the business and consumers. Lastly, prioritize convenience by creating user-friendly and seamless refill stations that enhance the overall customer experience.

Possible places for deployment includes the grocery shop and convenient stores such as Alfamart, these places are the places people often go, and they can be found almost anywhere. So  it would be a good idea to implement it in these places where its accessible to the public. Another one might be office building, it is the place that most people goes to everyday making it much accessible.
