What is ASA?

ASA, or Applied Science Academy, is a curriculum enrichment program at Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) that provides students with the opportunity to engage in research-based activities in various interdisciplinary fields, guided by experienced mentors and with access to laboratory facilities. The program emphasizes the benefits of research-based learning, including building character, developing good time management habits, and teaching self-learning skills and determination.

Since 2018

It was an invaluable experience and I envy everyone who gets to be a part of it now that it is more fully formed and managed. It allowed me to build knowledge and experience that many high school students would not be able to obtain normally, and it is still helping me in my college education. It's also thanks to meeting good mentors who were very supportive of my work through and through.

Currently studying Medicine at Catholic Kwandong University, South Korea

The experiences I gained at ASA exposed me to various fields in STEM (electrical engineering, computer science, materials science), solidifying my interests in pursuing a career in academia, and enabling me to work as a research assistant as a first-year undergraduate by demonstrating my proficiency in the field.

Currently studying Computer Science and Mathematics at Boston College, US

I think the experience helped expose early on some necessary skills required to excel in a competitive field and to be proactive in innovating new ways to solve different problems. It also exposes me to look at alternative ways to apply learning that is more practical and engaging as opposed to the more theoretical approach that we get in IB classes.

Timothy Alexander

Currently studying Computer Science with a minor in Statistics at Pennsylvania State University, US
